Immediate Safe Environments for Minors in Crisis

Admission Process

Admission Process for our Child 24-Hour Emergency Shelter is designed to ensure a smooth and supportive intake for children in need. The process includes the following steps:

  1. Referral and Intake:

    • Referral Submission: Referrals can come from social services, law enforcement, or other agencies. They provide initial information about the child's situation and needs.

    • Initial Contact: Shelter staff or case managers make contact with the referring party to gather more details and confirm the child's need for emergency shelter.

  2. Initial Assessment:

    • Information Gathering: Collects relevant information about the child, including personal details, medical history, and any immediate needs or concerns.

    • Safety and Risk Assessment: Conducts a safety evaluation to ensure that the shelter can provide a secure environment for the child.

  3. Admission Decision:

    • Review and Approval: The shelter team reviews the gathered information and assesses the suitability of the shelter for the child's needs.

    • Placement Decision: Based on the assessment, a decision is made regarding the child's admission to the shelter.

  4. Arrival and Orientation:

    • Welcome and Introduction: Upon arrival, the child is welcomed and introduced to the shelter environment, including staff, routines, and available services.

    • Orientation Session: Provides an orientation session to help the child understand the shelter’s rules, available programs, and daily activities.

  5. Immediate Care:

    • Health Screening: Conducts a health screening to assess any immediate medical or emotional needs.

    • Basic Needs Assessment: Addresses immediate needs such as clothing, food, and personal hygiene.

  6. Case Management Initiation:

    • Initial Meeting: Meets with a case manager to begin developing an individualized care plan based on the child’s needs and goals.

    • Documentation: Completes necessary paperwork and consents for medical care, services, and any legal considerations.

  7. Family and Support Network:

    • Family Contact: If applicable, contacts family members or guardians to inform them of the child’s admission and discuss any necessary arrangements or reunification plans.

    • Community Resources: Connects the child and their family with additional community resources and support services as needed.

The goal of the admission process is to ensure that each child receives prompt, compassionate care and that their transition into the shelter is as smooth and supportive as possible.
